Who can access the Library?

University of the Pacific Students: Students currently enrolled at the University are provided a Pacific ID card which acts as their library card and which must be shown to enter the library or to borrow materials.

Enhanced Privileges: Current McGeorge students who are faculty or library Research Assistants, on Law Review, or members of a moot court or advocacy team have enhanced privileges in the library to facilitate their added responsibilities at the law school.  A discussion of these privileges is located here.  These special privileges are to be used only in connection with materials borrowed for these added responsibilities and not regular course work, and such students are otherwise bound by regular student privileges.

Written authorization must be received from the supervising faculty member for students to change their status.  Authorization is usually extended for one academic semester or one academic year.

Faculty: Permanent, Adjunct, and Visiting Faculty may check anything out of the library including non-circulating items.

Employees: University employees may use their Pacific ID card to access library materials.

Alumni: University alumni are permitted use of the library (excluding the Computer Lab and study rooms), including circulation privileges upon registering at the Circulation desk. Recent graduates of McGeorge are permitted to use library study rooms when studying for the bar exam provided they follow all study room procedures. Graduates of McGeorge School of Law should contact the McGeorge Alumni Relations office to receive a card for library access. Alumni from other programs should contact their schools for further information on how to obtain an alumni card.

Local Borrowers: Local borrower status includes non-alumni members of the California State Bar who live or work in Sacramento County or nearby communities, and also people with McGeorge Affiliate status may use the Library (excluding the Computer Lab and study rooms) and have library privileges upon registration. Local attorneys and judges must show their current California state bar card or state bar record and proof of a home or work address in the Sacramento area. Local borrowers should have their McGeorge Affiliate ID or state bar card and photo identification with them to register, and bring their library card on return visits.

Law Students From Other Schools: Current law students from other ABA accredited schools can access the library by contacting the Assistant Dean, Library Services (McGeorge School of Law).

Please note that library access in the evening and on weekends is through swipe access using a Pacific ID card.
